History
Weiss Research Inc., founded by Martin Weiss in 1971, provides the average investor and consumer unbiased, conflict-of-interest-free investing information through the publication of newsletters, premium services, special reports, books, and seminars. Today, Weiss Research is one of the largest publishers of print and electronic financial newsletters in the U.S.
Martin Weiss published the first issue of Safe Money Report in August 1977. After 24 years, Martin Weiss remains the editor-in-chief of the newsletter.
Martin grew up virtually breathing and eating economics and investments, with a fabulous teacher his father, Irving Weiss.
Irving advised people like Bernard Baruch, Joe Kennedy and several in the Eisenhower Administration. And he's the only person as far as we know who made a fortune in the great bear market of '29-32 ... and then lived to do it again in the Crash of '87.
As a teenager, Martin was the ghostwriter for his father's monthly newsletter, the Money & Credit Report. In college, at NYU, Martin pursued a liberal arts degree. He chose anthropology for his Ph.D., which he completed at Columbia University, specializing in economics and Japan.
While still pursuing his Ph.D., Martin founded Martin D. Weiss Research, Inc. to analyze financial institutions for clients. He later moved the company from New York to Florida and renamed it Weiss Research, Inc. and published Safe Money Report.
Martin later expanded the Weiss Research suite of products to include email/fax recommendation services for more speculative investors. These services provide frequent trading recommendations on a wide range of stocks, mutual funds, and options.
Today, Weiss Research is just one-fourth of the Weiss Group. Martin has expanded the organization to include Weiss Ratings, Weiss Money Management, and the Weiss School.
Weiss Ratings has received accolades as the nation's leading source for accurate financial safety ratings of banks, savings and loans, and insurance companies. Weiss Ratings is the only major rating agency that receives no financial compensation whatsoever from the companies it rates. According to a 1994 study by the US General Accounting Office, Weiss was consistently more accurate than its competition on insurance company ratings, beating its closest competitor, A.M. Best by a margin of 3 to 1.
Weiss Money Management is a registered investment advisory firm, dedicated to managing investments for individual and institutional investors who seek safety and performance. It has assembled an investment management team with more than 75 years of combined experience to manage the assets for private individuals, pension plans, trust accounts, institutions, and investment companies. Weiss Money Management is committed to helping investors achieve their investment goals through a full range of financial services including individually managed accounts, mutual funds and one-on-one advice.
The Weiss School, which Martin co-founded with his wife Elisabeth, provides a warm and caring environment for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The curriculum and teaching style are designed to help all students succeed in developing the knowledge and skill they need to become independent thinkers. At the Weiss School, learning is transformed into an enjoyable, fulfilling experience. Each child develops the ability to communicate, assemble, and apply new knowledge, create ideas, and to reason.
